Jeff Bear (Maliseet) has been making a living, and making a difference, telling stories. He has worked in print and television, both Indigenous and mainstream. His output is prodigious, opinionated, and significant, and Jeff is a major force in Indigenous cinema and television in Canada.
In the next two episodes of Storytellers in Motion, we will hear Jeff Bear tell his story, in his Maliseet language. He made his first film, Stoney Economics, at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Several productions and many years later; he and his partner, producer, director, and actor Marianne Jones (Haida), launched their production company, Urban Rez Productions, and set out to, as Jeff’s father had once told him, “Just be Independent.”
