Jeff’s second story is of life and independent production - not so much the functions and details, it is more of a personal ode to storytelling.
The first story Urban Rez Productions told was Jeff’s response to television news footage, from the community of Burnt Church, in New Brunswick. Jeff and Marianne grabbed their gear and went there to shoot their first story together, Burnt Church: Obstruction of Justice.
Ravens and Eagles – Haida Art became the first television series for Urban Rez. The 26-part series was shot over two years on the islands of Haida Gwaii, Marianne’s homeland. The islands are places of incredible beauty, where art and life mingle easily.
Jeff Bear and Marianne Jones next turned their attention and cameras on their own industry. This series, Storytellers in Motion, is their inquiry into the state of the Indigenous voice in cinema and television.
